I need your help. As you may have noticed, I’ve been trying to raise awareness for mental health issues following the death of my best friend last year following a long battle with depression and anxiety. As someone who suffers from depression, I know how it can affect your life and how the stigma attached to mental illness can make it difficult for you to talk about. Many of you will know someone like me who suffers from mental illness or they may still be hiding it from their friends so that they don’t appear weak like many of us have done. By starting the ‘Do It For Dan’ campaign, I have been trying to help break the stigma and raise awareness around the condition.
You may now be asking what can you do to help? The response is very simple and won’t cost you anything. If you haven’t done so already, all you need to do is like the ‘Do It For Dan’ Facebook page as this will help keep the conversation going. There may be people you know who want to support someone with depression and don’t know what to say or do, or it might be someone who doesn’t know what to do next but if we can make a difference to just one person then all of the hard work will be worth it. If you’ve already liked the page, thank you and I sincerely mean that. If you still want to help, why not invite your friends to like the page. If you’ve already done that you’re amazing! If you don’t know how to do any of it, just ask and I can point you in the right direction. If you’re not interested in any of this, thanks for reading.
Over the time since I came out as suffering from depression I’ve had some amazing support from places that I wouldn’t have expected which is part of the reason I want to keep this going and reach as many people as we can but I can’t do it without the help of my friends which is where you all come in. As you can probably tell, this is something I feel very passionately about, not just because of the effect the illness has had on me but also those around me and Dan’s family and friends.
Thanks again for all of your help
