The second year for the Dan Rhodes Foundation has been a bit like the difficult second album. When a band has made a brilliant debut, they often find it difficult to better it with their second. Notable failures to improve on their first offering include The Stones Roses, Audioslave, Suede, The Arctic Monkeys and Rage Against The Machine to name a few. Not very many have succeeded like Nirvana, Black Sabbath and Radiohead in surpassing their debut albums. The Foundation has definitely suffered with ‘second album syndrome’ as it has been a difficult year on a number of fronts.
There hasn’t been any fundraising events this year as unfortunately I’ve been injured since my attempt at Total Warrior in 2017 and it has taken much longer to recover than I would have liked which has meant that I haven’t been able to take part in any events. Hopefully 2019 will see me back at the starting line and being able to push myself again. If anyone is going to be taking part in any events in 2019 and wants to do some fund raising then get in touch so that we can help (and provide a cool T-shirt!). If you don’t want to do anything physical then there are plenty of other things that you could do like bake sales and if you want any ideas and want to get involved then get in touch. In order for us to support the work that the Blurt Foundation and Mind do along with keeping the Dan Rhodes Foundation running we need your support. We are fortunate that we have some regular monthly donors and without them we wouldn’t be able to keep spreading our message. If you believe in what we are doing and you are able, then please try and help.
On a more positive note, we are reaching more people through our social media posts and have had some great feedback from some of our posts. We could still do with your help by letting your friends know about our page and social media accounts so that we can widen our reach as the increase has been slow and steady this year. Any feedback on what we are putting out is always appreciated even if it’s that you don’t like what we’re posting as it all helps us improve. We have had discussions with people over content and have adjusted what we post as a result but hopefully that helps us provide better content. If you have any feedback, don’t be shy, let us know what you think. If you want to help out by writing a blog, article or some posts then get in touch as we’re always on the lookout for new contributors and for people to help with the social media.
There are exciting times ahead as we are about to launch our first Christmas campaign which will be trying to raise awareness of how tough this time of year can be for some people and to try and get people to reach out to any of their friends that might be struggling. It is our first attempt at doing something like this so any support you can give would be greatly appreciated. It is exciting and nerve wracking to be trying something like this but as they say, growth comes outside your comfort zone. More details about the campaign to follow in the next few days.
We’re looking forward to the third year of the Foundation and we believe 2019 is going to be a good year as there are some epic things being planned. Watch this space as there are exciting times ahead. The final thing is to say thank you to everyone for their support over the two years as we couldn’t have kept going without you.
